It is a pleasure to announce that our Board of Directors has approved Life Membership for Renne and Claire Lanphier.  They drive a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine, in green, and were previously long-time active Members.  In support of our Membership Chairman, Renne continues to faithfully prepare and distribute our handsome club name tags for new members. The Lanphiers reside in Manvel, Texas and we hope to see them and their Sunbeam soon.

On behalf of the Houston MG Car Club, Tony Galt delivered 40 toys to the Toys for Tots regional collection center in LaPorte this week.

Toys for Tots was founded by a Marine in 1957. The organization’s mission is to give donated toys to less fortunate kids during the holidays. The coordinator for Greater Houston Area Toys for Tots, Marine Staff Sergeant Eric Quesada, said that requests for toys this year are double that of previous years, and that “in almost every single one of those requests [is] something about job loss to COVID.”

Thank you to all club members who participated in bringing joy to needy children this 2020 holiday season.

Club members Gordon and Angie Bard sharing the Christmas spirit

  • December 09, 2020 7:07 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Everyone already knows why we held a virtual “Christmas party” on Zoom this year. As the photo reveals, the attendees of our December meeting were festive and a lot of fun. A competition was held, based on screen appearance, in three categories. It was a demanding task with so many creative contestants, but Judges Dwight and Candy Dawson named the following winners:

BEST CHRISTMAS SPIRIT:  Bob and Kathy Schroeder

MOST CREATIVE:  Scott and Trish Hardy

MOST OUTRAGEOUS:  Joe and Peggy Schrodi

Each winning couple received a $25 Amazon gift certificate.

With so many worthy contenders, consolation prizes were suggested. Trish Hardy kindly offered to prepare a special Canadian Christmas treat for Gordon and Angie Bard. And all contestants will receive the recipe for that rare treat, a Canadian meat pie called Tourtiere.

We also announced the Club’s officers and board of directors for 2021. They are:

    PRESIDENT: Mike Woodward

    VICE PRESIDENT: Joe Schrodi

    SECRETARY: Roald Lokken

    TREASURER: Fran Carpenter

Newly elected DIRECTORS: Rich Colwell, Ron Redding, Bob Schroeder

It goes without saying that the Christmas party was not the same as it would have been with a roomful of 100 or so members, but we always find a way to have a good time. 2021 will be much better...

    Merry Christmas!
